Current Quests – Week of 07/20/08

So that was E3 for this year. Not quite as busy on the RPG front as I’d expected, but then since I’m a newsie, I should probably just be thankful. And while E3 kept our staff bustling this week there was certainly no shortage of gaming going on.

Jordan “J_Sensei” Jackson was busy this week collecting swag and trying out game demos at E3, but he’s back now almost in one piece. While he recovers from his trip (and a slight mishap afterwards) he’s been enjoying Final Fantasy IV DS, a week ahead of its official release — lucky dog!

Jerry “XeroZohar” Swain is continuing with his Mega Man marathon. Quite persistent, isn’t he? He’s currently making his way through the Zero/ZX series and sneaking in a bit of Rock Band on the side, for variety’s sake.

John “Karlinn” Boske has had a productive week. He’s managed to finish Arcanum, The Witcher, and finally (his emphasis) GTA4. His future plans involve mod tweaking for Stalker and Arcanum and possibly starting Persona 3, though the latter may require the consumption of copious amounts of alcohol first.

Emerging triumphantly from the depths of Etrian Odyssey 2, Michael “CactuarJoe” Beckett is taking a gaming breather. In the meantime he’s promised that a review is on its way in “a day or two.” Do feel free to poke him with something if he’s late. (Disclaimer: RandomNPC does not accept responsibility for any injury incurred while poking the staff Cactuar).

Proving that he is indeed a gaming god, Derek “Roku” Cavin has somehow managed to not only post oodles of E3 media, but also play through his copy of Chocobo Dungeon Wii and begin working on a spiffy review. Not one to take a break, he’s also picked up Final Fantasy Tactics Advance 2. We are very hopeful that he can avoid imploding, exploding, or otherwise self-destructing.

Cortney “Alethea” Stone is away on a super sekkrit secret mission to a location which I cannot, at this time, disclose. Because if I did I would have to kill all of you who are reading this and then the rest of the column would become a moot point. And that would sad. We’ll let you know what she’s playing when she comes back from… err… wherever.

Michael “Slayer of God” Kozinko is also wandering distant lands as he continues his Ivalice tour. He’s currently braving the Stilshrine of Miriam in FFXII and has fought his way to chapter nine of Revenant Wings. There’s also rumour that he’s been toying with FFT: War of the Lions as well.  He mentioned something about a character named “Mustard” or maybe it was “Mustadio”… Sounds delicious either way.

Between work, real life, and E3, I must admit I hardly gamed at all this week. I managed to sneak in a few hours of Twlight Princess this weekend and that’s about it. It’s my first playthrough of the game and while sword swinging with Wiimote is making my wrist ache if I play for long, I am getting a kick out of seeing Link as a wolf.
