In Wild Arms 5 there is a shop that lets you exchange experience levels for items and equipment. It’s run by the vampire chick from 2, who refers to it as exchanging your life force for items. The lesson here is that Wild Arms 2 always comes back to bite you. Continue reading ‘Mass Media 08/08/09’ »
Y’know, I’m not much of a Japanophile. Not really. I’d like to visit the place, trying to learn to speak the language, maybe watch an anime or two – they keep breaking my heart, but I keep giving them chances, it’s like some sick relationship that just won’t die. But I can say with a straight face that Vocaloid is one of the best things they’ve ever made.
Seriously, Miku can de-angst the most hardened man in time. Oh, you might balk at it initially, but she finds a way in. She finds a way.
But enough about me, let’s talk media. In today’s update: Disgaea 3 DLC, Summon Night: Tear’s Crown, Ys Seven, Princess Antiphona’s Hymn: Angel’s Score Op.A, and Blood of Bahamut. Observe: Continue reading ‘Mass Media 08/02/09’ »

Square Enix has released details about the plot of its upcoming DS RPG Blood of Bahamut. As it turns out, the main character is a summoner named Ibuki, presumably the last of his kind. The power of dragons runs through summoners, and as such they’re granted the ability to transform. Giant monsters already roam the land, and supposedly there’s another dragon lurking out there, which suggests Ibuki may have some competition down the line.
Summons from Final Fantasy games have been shown in previous screenshots, and it is known that Shiva, Ifrit, and Gilgamesh will make appearances. A beast known as Chaos Bahamut awaits those who can take on all the others, making it basically a battle royale of Godzilla-a-likes.
Blood of Bahamut will be released in Japan on August 6.

Just a couple quick ones for y’all, some Blood of Bahamut screens and a few snippets of Tales media. Apparently they’re making an anime out of Abyss, and there’s some other Tales Supergroup game in the works. Oh, and a shot of a character from the upcoming Tales of Graces. What I’m trying to say is they’re still not making my dream game where it’s just a cast of reasonably charming characters going on wacky adventures without some overarching plot involving racism.
And all of the female characters are voiced by Jennifer Hale. Let me have my dreams! Continue reading ‘Mass Media 06/17/09’ »
Man, I don’t know if I want to live in a world where Duke Nukem Forever is truly no more. It was like Schödinger’s Cat in game form, only we now know for certain that there never was a cat in the first place, and they were just showing us pictures of other cats. Of course we kinda knew all along that something was up but were going with it anyway because it made for good joke fodder, and who knows? Maybe there really was a cat in there the whole time and it’d be a really awesome cat. A cat with attitude and strippers. Oh well. Another hallmark of our pasttime gone by the wayside.
Anyway, here’s some completely unrelated media for you: Knights in the Nightmare, Blood of Bahamut, Ys Seven, Inazuma Eleven 2, and Trinity Universe. Continue reading ‘Mass Media 05/10/09’ »
No rest for the weary or wicked, eh? Incidentally, I just tried to bypass a Fallout 3 crashing problem with a custom Pipboy radio station by just playing Winamp in the background. This, sadly, chopped up the framerate like so much meat at the mercy of a certain butcher some of you may know. The moral of the story is Fallout 3 and Whitesnake do not get along. Anyway, more media for you fine folks: Vandal Hearts: Flames of Judgment, Tales of Graces, Crimson Gem Saga, Tales of Vesperia for the PS3, Blood of Bahamut and Arc Rise Fantasia. Speculation regarding the new countdown site www.bahamut.jp was rampant, but the latest pages of Famitsu give at least some of the answers a few days sooner than expected. Blood of Bahamut is an action RPG for the DS with 2D sprites on 3D backgrounds. So far we know that the towering colossus that looks like a walking city will have some role. What role? We don’t know that yet. Perhaps that will be part of the big reveal. Two characters, Ibuki and Yui, have also been named.

There’s a new countdown over at http://www.bahamut.jp/. It’s not clear what the game is, but we’ll know more in about 4 days, 23 hours, 28 minutes, 16 seconds, give or take depending on your time zone. Based on the title of the site, it is probably related to Blood of Bahamut, which was recently trademarked by Square Enix. It’s also possible this is tied into Bahamut Lagoon in some fashion, but that is pure speculation at this point.
