Disgaea 3: Absence of Justice - Staff Review

Nearly five years ago, gamers first got a crack at Disgaea: Hour of Darkness, a quirky TRPG set in the Netherworld. This game mixed a unique blend of humor with tactical combat and defied many of the common conventions of RPGs and of games in general. There really isn’t anything quite like a Disgaea game, and now the series makes its debut on the PlayStation 3 with Disgaea 3: Absence of Justice and improves on the formula in nearly every way. All you NISA-loving TRPG fans should be able to pick up Disgaea 3: Absence of Justice most anywhere. It officially hit stores yesterday for the slightly reduced price of $49.99. And if you pre-ordered, enjoy your official soundtrack.

Evil Academy Recruiting In Europe

PAL gamers have more goodies coming their way. Nippon Ichi announced today that Disgaea 3: Absence of Justice for the PlayStation 3 will be making its way to Europe. The game will be hitting North American shelves next week on August 26. PAL gamers will have to wait a little longer, though, as the release is scheduled for early 2009.

Atlus Goes Hardcore

Atlus has certainly been keeping busy of late and doesn’t look to be slowing down anytime soon. Atlus U.S.A. announced today that they’ll be the North American distributor for three upcoming NIS titles: Disgaea 3: Absence of Justice for PlayStation 3, and, both for the Nintendo DS, Disgaea DS and Rhapsody: A Musical Adventure.

Laharl Needs Your Help Picking Disgaea 3 OST

Are you thinking of pre-ordering Disgaea 3? If so, you’re going to get a 15-song OST. What will it look like and what songs will it have? That depends on which ones get the most votes. If you want to put your two HL in, you’re more than welcome to do so here.

Disgaea 3 Gets Patched, New Playable Characters

Nippon Ichi Software recently released a patch for Disgaea 3, the first game in the series to appear on the PlayStation 3. The patch will allow players to recruit the ‘ten gentlemen” to their party, but only if two conditions are met. The player must get the normal ending, and Mao, the protagonist, must be at a higher level than the gentleman he intends to have join his party. If both conditions are met, then one gentleman will join Mao for each full trip through the game.

Disgaea 3 hit Japanese shelves on January 31, and is due to invade our shores in August.

North American PS3s Return to the Netherworld In August

Nippon Ichi, creator of the popular Disgaea series, has confirmed that the Disgaea 3 will be arriving on North American shores this August for the PlayStation 3. The newest trip through the Netherworld stars Mao, a student at a school for demons as he attempts to overthrow his father, claim the title of overlord, and become a hero. Editorial - What I’d Like to See in Disgaea 3

With Disgaea 3 coming up soon, I thought I’d make up a list of a few simple changes that could help make things a little more convenient for the player. I realize that a lot of these will only appeal more heavily to those who go above and beyond the requirements to beat the game, but I still feel that they would be convenient tweaks nonetheless, especially with as many all-powerful extra bosses the last two Disgaeas had.
