Weekly Shonen Jump has revealed that a sequel to Dissidia: Final Fantasy is in the works. Dubbed Dissidia Duodecim, the title is set for a 2011 release on the PSP, though no hard date was given. Little information is known at this point, though the magazine did confirm that Final Fantasy XIII‘s Lightning and Final Fantasy IV‘s Kain will be playable characters.

When it was announced, Dissidia: Final Fantasy sounded like an interesting concept: a fighting game starring Final Fantasy characters. At first glance, you might think it is the spiritual successor to Ehrgeiz. You’d be wrong. The only thing this game has in common with that PS1 brawler is the inclusion of Cloud and Sephiroth among the cast. Make no mistakes about it. This is an action RPG at its finest, and for fans that have dutifully played the first ten Final Fantasy games, it’s chock full of nostalgia and gameplay that will keep you coming back. I’ve never been a huge fan of fighting games, and my experience with them has been largely limited to Super Smash Brothers. But Dissidia: Final Fantasy interests me for obvious reasons — I love the Final Fantasy series — so I gave it a try at Square Enix’s booth.
