These days, remakes are all the rage, and many of them are finding their way onto Nintendo’s dual-screened portable juggernaut. These transitions typically mean new features as well as the expected boosts in graphics and sound, but they also mean comparisons to games that have been released years and sometimes even a decade after the initial release of the source material. In this light, remakes are unique in that they must compete with games of the past, present, and future in a modern day setting, yet Dragon Quest IV: Chapters of the Chosen for the DS manages to hold its own. North American Dragon Quest fans can, for the first time, be envious of European gamers as Dragon Quest: The Chapters of the Chosen for the Nintendo DS goes on sale tomorrow in PAL territories. And though no release dates have been set, the remakes of Dragon Warrior V and VI (now dubbed Dragon Quest: The Hand of the Heavenly Bride and Dragon Quest: Realms of Reverie) are said to be “coming soon.”
The remake of the original NES title is rated twelve and up. North American fans will have to sit tight until September 15.
In news that should shock absolutely no one, Dragon Quest V shipped over one million copies in under two weeks in Japan. Considering the fact that Japan loves Dragon Quest and the DS, it’s kind of surprising it took this long. Dragon Quest IV performed similarly well when it saw its release in November of last year, and Dragon Quest VI has yet to see release. All three games are coming to North America, with Dragon Quest IV hitting our shelves on September 16.

With so many other countries getting the DS remake of Dragon Quest IV, France may have thought it was going to be left out in the cold. Not so! The French will be able to fight hordes of slimes by the end of September.
Rarely one to package a game just once, Square-Enix has launched a site to announce the upcoming release of Dragon Quest IV for the Nintendo DS. Last seen in North America as Dragon Warrior IV for the NES, way back in 1992, Dragon Quest IV has been confirmed with a release date of September 16 of this year. Further releases are planned for Dragon Quest V and VI, though there is currently no further information about their release dates.
Though not an official confirmation that the DS remake of Dragon Quest IV is North American bound, a recent trademark filing by Square Enix protects the title “Chapters of the Chosen.” Continue reading ‘Square Enix Trademarks “Chapters of the Chosen,” Rated by ESRB as Dragon Quest IV’ »
