If you live in or near New York City and play Pokémon, Nintendo would like to formally invite you to the Pokémon Platinum launch party. The event will kick off at 11 a.m. on Saturday at the Nintendo World store in Rockefeller Plaza. Not only will there be fun and games, those at the event will also be able to purchase the game a full day before hits shelves everywhere else in North America. In breaking news, Sega is developing a new RPG, an RPG so top secret they won’t even reveal its name. A teaser site has been posted for an upcoming game that seems to have something to do with dragons. The game is being produced by Rieko Kodama (Phantasy Star, Sonic), directed by Kazuya Niinou (Etrian Odyssey), with a music by Yuzo Koshiro (Etrian Odyssey), and character design by “Mota”. Sega has promised to reveal more information about the game in the upcoming edition of Famistu due out on September 26. For those who are curious, check out the the teaser site.

Square Enix and Marvelous Entertainment have both announced the games they’ll be showing off at the Tokyo Game Show this October. Visitors to the show can get a look at the usual suspects, including demos of upcoming Kingdom Hearts and Harvest Moon titles, but there will certainly some disappointed fans as both Final Fantasy XIII and Dragon Quest IX have been listed as trailer-only titles. DKΣ3713 Recap: FFXIII PS3 Demo in Advent Children Blu-Ray, FFXIII Agito and Parasite Eve: The 3rd Birthday Coming to PSP, Boatload of Trailers
Square Enix’s DKΣ3713 event has been full of good news for Japanese gamers, and most of it will probably end up as good news for North Americans. The biggest news thus far is that when Final Fantasy VII: Advent Children finally comes to Japanese Blu-Ray in March, it will include a playable demo of Final Fantasy XIII for the PlayStation 3 along with new videos of Final Fantasy Versus XIII and Final Fantasy XIII Agito on the disc. Square Enix has not announced any plans for the North American Blu-Ray release, but those willing to pay import price will be in luck. Japan and North America are in the same region when it comes to movies, and games are region free. After sitting through the Microsoft Press Event, and thinking about it over a tasty beef bowl at Yoshinoya, here is my summary and impressions of the event. Be warned, this is a long read.
Many a gamer out there is waiting with bated breath for the release of Final Fantasy IV DS on July 22. In the meantime, the Square Enix Members site has announced a “Fan-Powered Q&A” with the FFIV development team. Questions can be submitted via the online form, which can be accessed only by those who’ve registered with the site. A lucky handful of questions will answered. You can go to the site’s blog for complete details and links to the question submission form.
As previously announced, Square Enix will be holding an exclusive event this August. It has now announced which games will have trailers and which will have playable demos.
This coming August a handful of lucky Square Enix fans will have a chance to get in on an invite-only party with the mysterious name of “DKΣ3713 Private Party 2008.” To win an entry, fans will have to put their names in at the Square Enix Members site. The big event will take place in Tokyo’s Harajuku fashion district on August 2 and 3.

As is supposedly common knowledge, the Xbox 360 has a dearth of RPG titles available for it. Sure there’s Mass Effect, Lost Odyssey, Blue Dragon, Culdcept Saga… ok, maybe not a dearth. Still, it could always use more!
