Title says it all: the actual Final Fantasy III has been released for PSP as a downloadable title. Apart from optimized visuals for the screen size, the port includes an auto-battle function and the option to switch to the game’s original background music.

While Square Enix had everyone’s attention, they announced that Final Fantasy I, II, and III would see novelizations, each under the tentative subtitle Memory of Heroes. The books are planned for a Fall release, and, sadly, will probably not feature an all white mage party or warmech.

Square Enix announced today that Final Fantasy III will be among the launch titles for the Ouya, the Kickstarter-funded console scheduled for a March 2013 release. The title will see optimization for the droid-based platform, and Square Enix is also looking into DLC support, though nothing specific was confirmed at this time.

Square Enix has confirmed that a PSP redux of Final Fantasy III is in development. Based on the DS remake, this version also includes some additions from the iOS version. FFIII hits digital and retail stores starting September 20, priced at ¥3,990 on UMD and ¥3,300 for download.

Final Fantasy III, also known as Not-Final-Fantasy-VI-This-Time, will be available on Virtual Console in July for the low, low price of 500 Nintendo funbucks, or roughly five real bucks… in Japan. And to think, they almost didn’t not release it again. And if you can parse that sentence, you’re probably better at this than me. But, I ramble.
