Over the years there have been signs and portents of a remake of Pokemon Gold and Silver, fan favorites in the series due to its sheer size and the fact that it was the first game to expand the Pokemon universe beyond the confines of the Kanto region. The final result, Pokemon Heart Gold and Soul Silver, is every bit as fully featured and chock-full of Pokemon goodness as the originals, but unfortunately, they also carry over some of the less desireable quirks of Gold and Silver. Most serious of these are bothersome balance issues, and a plot which is flat even by Pokemon standards. On the whole, HG/SS isn’t a bad game, and makes some definite strides in the areas of sound and visuals, but it probably won’t be of much interest to anyone but fans of the series. As reported earlier, the upcoming Pokémon HeartGold/SoulSilver will feature a special pedometer which tracks your walking distance and translates that to experience and items for your Pokémon. A recent announcement has confirmed that the pedometer will be included with the US release, as it was for the Japanese launch back in September.
Heartgold/Soulsilver will hit stores March 14.

Following up on our coverage of new Pokemon moves, this week we’ll be taking a look at the move tutors of Pokemon Heart Gold and Soul Silver. Though the new moves Pokemon learn by level up and breeding in HG/SS are undoubtedly significant, they pale in comparison to the move tutors this remake throws our way. HG/SS has no fewer than 52 tutors available for use, but only 14 are new, the others being repeats taught by the move tutors of Pokemon Platinum. The new tutors are Super Fang, Pain Split, String Shot, Tail Wind, Gravity, Worry Seed, Role Play, Magic Coat, Heal Bell, Low Kick, Sky Attack, Block, Bug Bite, and Headbutt. We’ll be taking a look at the most useful of these in this week’s Strategy Session. Continue reading ‘Strategy Session – Pokemon Heart Gold and Soul Silver, Part 2’ »

Nintendo announced via the official Pokémon website that Pokémon HeartGold and SoulSilver will be released in North America and Europe this coming spring.
Pokémon Heart Gold and Silver Soul pre-order goodies for Japan have been confirmed. Heart Gold pre-orders will include a Ho-Oh figurine, and Silver Soul pre-orders will include a Lugia figurine. If you have the yen to throw aroun, you can pre-order both versions and receive an Arceus figure.
Nintendo has announced that the upcoming Nintendo DS remakes of Pokémon Gold and Silver will arrive in Japanese stores on September 12. The games will be bundled with a PokeWalker, a special kind of device that counts the user’s steps (like a pedometer) and then sends the data to the game. The purpose of the PokeWalker is not clear at this time, but it seems to play a key role in gameplay. The addition of the device will not alter the price tag, however; the bundle will cost 4,980 yen, the same as any other Pokémon title.
A North American release has not been announced.
Nintendo announced that Pokémon Gold and Pokémon Silver, which sold a combined 23 million units for the GBA, will be remade for the DS, similar to the way Pokemon Red and Green were remade for the GBA in its time. The new games will be called Pokémon Heart Gold and Pokémon Soul Silver and will commemorate the series’ ten year anniversary.
