The gaming world is filled with unusual mascot characters. Nintendo has a rotund Italian plumber that eats mushrooms to gain power. Sega gave us an insanely fast hedgehog with a surly attitude and a flying two-tailed fox for a friend. However, none are quite so unique, offbeat, or downright strange as the Prinny: the knife wielding, peg-legged, exploding penguins that embody the souls of sinners punished to a lifetime of slavery. Also, they say “dood” a lot. In Prinny: Can I Really Be the Hero?, the seemingly weakest creatures in the Netherworld star in their own game. North American gamers can pick up some portable gaming this week. Fire Emblem: Shadow Dragon and Dragon Quest V: Hand of the Heavenly Bride, both DS remakes of games that never made it overseas until now, hit store shelves today. Fire Emblem: Shadow Dragon is rated E for Everyone while Dragon Quest V is rated E10+. The PSP meanwhile is getting some action, dood, in the form of Prinny: Can I really be the Hero, which is rated T for Teen.
To hype up the upcoming release of Prinny: Can I Really Be the Hero, which hits shelves on Tuesday, NISA has opened a most unusual blog. Prinny has taken to the interwebs to show everyone what it’s like to be a giant, peg legged, exploding penguin. You can check it out here.

NIS America has announced that the Disgaea spin off Prinny: Can I Really be the Hero? for the PSP is coming to North America in February 2009. In it, you lead a squadron of 1000 prinnies in some sort of quest. So far, little is known other than the fact that it’s side scrolling action. There’s an official site with a pretty humorous trailer for your viewing pleasure.
