Mass Media 09/08/12

SlayerGhaleon: I was reading DMWL and they had these two gag comics that featured Minatsuki playing evil tricks on people.
SlayerGhaleon: And every comic ended with her giving an evil grin.
Sicondera: Heh
SlayerGhaleon: So they literally translated the descriptor as the Japanese word, and then explained that it meant “Evil grin” in Japanese.
SlayerGhaleon: And I’m like “Why not just put down ‘sneer.’ It means the same f-ing thing, you f-ing morons.”
SlayerGhaleon: If you’ll pardon my language, dear lady.
Sicondera: Dictionary-itis.
Sicondera: It’s a common ailment among translators.
SlayerGhaleon: In other words, “Look, I know what this word means, and I’m going to explain it to you! Ooh! My e-penis is so big!”

Tales News: Xillia 2 Preorder Bonuses, Tales of Cards Revealed

In the latest batch of Tales news, Namco Bandai has unveiled the bonus goodies for Tales of Xillia 2 preorders: a “Tales of Xillia 2 Before Episode” novel and art book (depicting events in the year between the first and second game), DLC costumes, and a custom Dual Shock 3 controller. All told, the bundle will run about ¥12,980.

Meanwhile, Tales of Cards was also showcased; a social game that, predictably, uses cards featuring characters from the series. Curiously, the game’s story mode involves playing through the series’ various plots, with Phantasia and Graces available at launch.

Tales of Xillia 2 Details Emerge

Details continue to surface about Tales of Xillia 2. Regarding characters, you’ll be able to switch from main character Rudger to other party members in battle, as is common in Tales games. Less common is that Elle, the female lead, does not take part in battle, being only eight years old. The pair are only a journey to the land of Kanan, where supposedly one can have a wish fulfilled; Elle’s wish is to help her father.

Storywise, the game starts in the city of Trigaf, the home of both Rudger and the large corporation known as Klanspia Company. At the game’s opening, Rudger is trying to find work with them. Gameplay systems reportedly tie into the broader theme of “Are you prepared to destroy the world?” though how, exactly, is unclear.

Tales of Xillia 2 Announced

At its Tales of Festival event, Namco Bandai revealed the new entry in the series: Tales of Xillia 2. A direct sequel to Xillia, the game focuses on the adventures of main character Ludgar, his cat Lulu, and Ellie, the obligatory plot-critical little girl. Other than taking place one year after Xillia‘s ending, it’s not clear how the plot will intersect with the previous game.

Few details have been revealed, though the game will feature timed decision points that alter certain events; some subtle or conversational, others possibly leading to optional fights. Namco Bandai has uploaded the official site – available here – and indicated a Winter 2012 release window, with the specific date and price to be announced on June 27.
