XSEED has announced that The Legend of Heroes: Trails in the Sky Second Chapter is coming to both PSP and PC via Steam. Aiding them with the translation is Carpe Fulgur, best known for Recettear and Chantelise.
Second Chapter comes out in 2014. For PC fans, the first Trails in the Sky will also be released on Steam this winter.
Takayuki Hatano, lead developer for the iOS version of Legend of Heroes: Trails in the Sky, spoke about the project in a recent interview with Famitsu. Intending to go further than a simple port, Hatano explained the iOS version will feature a revised interface to make the game more playable via touchscreen. Graphical updates are also in progress, and the team is reportedly looking into social elements for gameplay: item bonuses or support for special attacks with nearby friends, for instance.
A release timeframe was not given, though Hatano did say that releasing the game this year may be challenging. He added that Falcom is “telling them to take their time to make a quality game.”
Coming straight from XSEED is the announcement of a partnership with Japan-based developer/publisher Nihon Falcom, with the intent of bringing the latest three installments in the Ys series to the PSP. The ports of the titles in question – Ys Seven, Ys: The Oath of Felghana, and Ys I & II Chronicles – will see a US release, though no date has been announced.
The deal also allows XSEED to release the next three chapters in Falcom’s Legend of Heroes series, the Trails in the Sky trilogy. As with the above Ys games, release dates are not yet known, though the titles will be brought to the PSP for North America.
