Valkyrie Profile: Covenant of the Plume represents a bit of a step back in time for the series. Where Valkyrie Profile: Silmeria led the series in a more optimistic direction, Covenant of the Plume returns to the tragedy and gloom of the first game in the series, choosing the theme of sacrifice in contrast to Silmeria‘s hope. The game is designed rather well, and the plot is extremely well written, but an overall lack of consistency and an unfortunate rehashing of artistic elements from earlier in the series drags the whole thing down rather badly. European gamers can add a couple more dates to their calendar. Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles: Echoes of Time will ship out for Wii and DS on March 27 while Valkyrie Profile: Covenant of the Plume will be headed to DS screens on April 3.

Square Enix updated their 2009 release date list today. Dragon Quest V: Hand of the Heavenly Bride for the Nintendo DS will head to stores on February 17 and has been rated E10+. Valkyrie Profile: Covenant of the Plume, also for the Nintendo DS, will ship out on March 17.
Valkyrie Profile: Toga wo Seou Mono for the Nintendo DS has just gotten an official release date. Lucky Japanese gamers will be able to get their hands on it come October 2 for 4,800 yen. So far we’re still waiting to hear about a North American release. In the meantime fans can check out the game’s official Japanese site.
Square Enix has revealed a few details for its upcoming Valkyrie Profile: Toga wo Seou Mono. For starters, the main character will not be a valkyrie as in previous games. The pages of Shonen Jump reveal that a third entry to the Valkyrie Profile series is headed to the DS. Though difficult to read, the scan shows the title to be Valkyrie Profile: Toga wo Seou Mono, which translates to ‘The Person that Shoulders the Blame’.
