More Final Fantasy XIV World Details Emerge

Square Enix has released yet more details about the rebuilt world of Final Fantasy XIV, specifically its non-playable inhabitants. Of particular note are the following:

  • Amalj’aa are large, nomadic beastkin lurking around the sultanate of Ul’dah. Worshippers of Ifrit, they view the land surrounding Ul’dah as sacred and frequently clash with the city for control over it.
  • Ixal are humanoid critters with an avian bent; feathered and winged, but incapable of flight. They follow the primal Garuda, worshipping her as a deity, and regularly come to blows with the city-state of Gridania.
  • Kobolds vaguely resemble oversized moles; a race of diggers who have excavated vast swathes of underground territory in the name of Titan, a primal representing the power of earth. Although initially on good terms with Limsa Lominsa, conflicts over mineral deposits have recently led to hostilities.
  • Sylphs are petite woodland folk lurking in the Black Shroud forest. Although wary of outsiders, they are otherwise on good terms with the civilized races of Eorzea.
  • Sahagin are an aquatic race that, since the Seventh Umbral Era, have grown more aggressive in surface assaults. They revere Leviathan above all; a seaborne primal known for devouring anything unlucky enough to cross its path.
  • Bahamut is an elder primal of immense power, imprisoned for aeons in the moon Dalamud. His awakening – and subsequent violent rampage – marked the start of the Seventh Umbral Era, though he has not been seen in the five years since.

No (re)-release date has yet been announced for Final Fantasy XIV, though an announcement is expected before the end of May.
