Omega Quintet Battle System Detailed

Compile Heart’s upcoming PS4 RPG Omega Quintet got a closer look in this week’s Famitsu, during which the game’s battle mechanics were explained in greater detail.

With turn-based combat at the core, the game allows a max party size of six (five Songstresses plus main character Tact) and displays the turn order on the screen. Turn order is altered by attack strength after the fact, with harder-hitting attacks pushing a character’s next turn further away. Active characters can take multiple actions per turn, with a number by their portrait indicating the number of moves available, and each character can use a special support skill once per turn.

Songstresses can exploit the turn order, using weaker attacks to line their turns up for much stronger combinations, called Harmonics. Interestingly, the Songstresses also appear to do most of the heavy lifting in combat, with the protagonist present in more of a support role, such as teaming up with Songstresses for special attacks, or improving their defenses.

Omega Quintet is scheduled for a September 19 release in Japan.
