Big Day for DS Today: New Hardware Revision, Two RPGs
Nintendo held a press conference today and announced some pretty big news. For starters, the newest iteration of the DS has been revealed. It’s slightly thinner and features a camera, a 17% bigger screen, and an SD card slot. These improvements do not come without a cost; it will not have a GBA slot. Japan gets it Nov 1 of this year, and we here in the Americas will be waiting until sometime “late next year.”
Nintendo also announced that two games would be finding their way to North America. The first is Fire Emblem: Shadow Dragon. It is a remake of the original Fire Emblem game for the Famicom and stars Marth, whom many have come to know via Super Smash Bros. On top of the improvement in graphics, players will be able to compete via Wi-Fi in five-character batles. The mic will also allow voice chat during play. Fire Emblem: Shadow Dragon is slated for release in the first half of 2009.
The other game is Mario and Luigi 3. Details are scarce, but the first trailer shows Bowser wreaking havoc and swallowing the mustachioed plumbers. It also looks like at least some segments will feature Bowser as a playable character, possibly similar to Paper Mario 2. Its release date is more vague, sometime in 2009 with no elaboration as to when in 2009 we can expect it.
