FF Producer: We Can’t Ignore the Action-RPG Trend
In a recent interview, Final Fantasy producer Yoshinori Kitase talked about a trend towards action-RPGs in the context of FFXIII and its upcoming sequel. He states that, globally, he sees players moving away from traditional turn-based games towards more action-oriented titles, and that “you ignore things like that at your peril.”
Regarding FFXIII and XIII-2, he added “XIII and XIII-2‘s battle systems have those elements of speed and action that are the key words for us.” He also added that Final Fantasy traditionally presents something new with each game, and that they’re not necessarily going to stick with XIII‘s style of gameplay going forward.
