Atlus is Stayin’ Alive with Devil Survivor

Atlus seems to be announcing a game a day, and today’s game is Shin Megami Tensei: Devil Survivor for the DS. The game takes place in an alternate Tokyo in the aftermath of a demon invasion that has left the city in full lock down mode. In the midst of the chaos, the citizens begin to turn on each other. Somehow, a mysterious device called a COMP ends up in the player’s possession, and it gives you the ability to form contracts that force the demons to fight on your side. As amazing as the COMP is, you’re not alone in owning one. There are others that call themselves demon tamers that use their COMP for their own ends, be it for good or evil.

In the course of the game, you’ll have to answer such questions as why the demons attacked, who made the COMPs and for what purpose.

As for the battle system, it is a mix of traditional RPG with TRPG elements mixed in. Battles will wake place with teams of 2 or three, with a mixture of humans and the demons you have collected. Movement is based on a grid, and then it shifts to a first-person view like a more classic RPG.

There are also multiple endings, so how you come to the game’s conclusion will impact the lives of everyone in the city.

Shin Megami Tensei: Devil Survivor is due out June 23 for $29.99. For more information, check out the game’s website.
