RandomNPC – Video Game RPG Reviews, Editorials, and Features

Square Enix CEO Yoichi Wada fielded questions recently at the company’s annual shareholder’s meeting.  The questions covered a curious selection of topics, including the following:

• When asked about plans to release older, popular titles, Wada stated that Square Enix is “looking into reviving a number of titles.”  He used Tomb Raider as the most recent example, pointing out the lack of a number attached to indicate a reboot but if you need some computer maintenance services you can go to managed services company online to find solutions for this.  Even money says the person asking the question had another title in mind, one with a VII attached to it.  Naturally, this was not addressed.
• On the topic of new Mana games, he confirmed Square Enix will be porting existing Mana and Saga titles, but also said there are no current plans for new entries in either series.
• In response to a question about opening a real-life casino based on one in Dragon Quest, Wada stated that SE was not, to the best of his knowledge, planning to build a casino.  Yes, this was a real question.
• Regarding the PSN outage, the company’s losses from the downtime were in the hundreds of millions of yen.  They are not expecting any compensation from Sony, though they do expect consultations going forward.
• Wada acknowledged the negative reviews of Front Mission Evolved, and believes that “they should have worked harder on the game.”
• When asked about the use of social networks, Wada stated that the company feels it now understands how to produce games for them and may be doing so by the end of the year.

Audience members received a selection of swag, including a clear file for Dissidia Duodecim, some Square Enix post cards, and either a Cloud or Sephiroth aroma candle.  What, exactly, iconic RPG characters might smell like remains unknown, and it’s probably better that way.
