Not content to just release a sequel to the popular Mass Effect and make gobs of money, Electronic Arts and Bioware are working on an iPhone-based animated entry into their sci-fi series. Debuting on the iPhone, Mass Effect: Jacob’s Story will deliver “top-down, arcade-style space combat” to the small screen.

Jacob’s Story, predictably, tells the story of Jacob; a biotic super-soldier who uncovers a plot to “terrorize civilization’s greatest beacon of hope.” The iPhone game is currently being test-marketed by way of online survey, and it will feature backstory from some of the main characters to appear in Mass Effect 2. Few details have been released about the specifics of gameplay or story, and a release date has not yet been announced.
