Atlus Hears Players’ Prayers, Brings New Item on Strange Journey

Veterans of Shin Megami Tensei: Nocturne and the latter two Persona games will be all to familiar with this scenario: trying to fuse two demons together only to spend forever flipping back and forth and back and forth in a vain attempt to have your new demon inherit at least one of the skills you, y’know, actually want. Well, Atlus has finally heard our prayers and has created an item that actively gives fused demons specific skills.

As we’ve previously reported, the newest installment in Atlus’s MegaTen series, Shin Megami Tensei: Strange Journey, will be continuing a lot of old traditions from its spiritual predecessor, Shin Megami Tensei: Nocturne. One such tradition is the Demon Fusion system. Once again, players will be able to fuse two or even three demons together to create newer, more powerful demons. Strange Journey, however, will add a new twist to this old system; an item called “demon source.”  Demon source is specific demon skills in crystalline form. When a demon levels up, it may choose to give you a demon source containing one of its skills. Then, once players go to fuse two or more demons together, they will have the choice of using that demon source to give the newly fused demon that skill.

Shin Megami Tensei: Strange Journey is due out for the NDS in Japan on October 10.

Huuuuuh, interesting. That opens the door to some bizarre ability-demon combinations. Although I get the feeling I’m gonna end up with 30 Agi sources and nothing for Megadolaon or Tetra/Makarakarn. 😛
