Persona 3 Portable – Out with the Old, in With the New Battle System

One of the very few gripes people seemed to have with the Playstation 2 version of Persona 3 was with its battle system.  Having to talk to each party member just to change their equipment or having to rely on the sometimes-not-very-good ally AI in battle was, to be frank, just plain irritating.  Well, Atlus has listened to the feedback.

In Persona 3 Portable, the old system has been completely replaced with an adjusted version of the Persona 4 battle system.  Not only does this include an always-available menu for customizing characters and the ability to put all party members under player control, it also means Persona 3 Portable will have Persona 4 staples like combo attacks.

Persona 3 Portable will also have several new quests to complete, many of which involve finding missing people who have wandered into Tartarus.  Another, more aesthetic change is the ability to choose who you would like as Igor’s assistant in the Velvet Room: Margaret or Theodore.  When players choose to play as the new female lead, they will also have the option of replacing Margaret with Theodore in the Velvet Room.
