Final Fantasy XIII-2 Director, Producer Share Details
Following Square Enix’s 1st Production Department Premier event, Yoshinori Kitase and Motomu Toriyama sat down for an interview with Dengeki. The topic: the recently announced Final Fantasy XIII-2, which features Kitase as producer and Toriyama as director. While scant few gameplay details were covered – the battle system has seen unspecified upgrades over Final Fantasy XIII‘s – the two did discuss how XIII-2 fits into the series.
The premier event displayed footage detailing the Fabula mythology, which connects XIII, XIII-2, Versus XIII, and the recently-renamed Type 0. XIII-2 will take players into a different part of the mythology, dealing with the Etro deity as opposed to the ones featured in XIII. Toriyama explained that XIII-2 is a direct sequel that starts in the Gran Pulse world, and Lightning is once again a main character. Other returning characters will show up throughout the game, some with significant changes since XIII.
Kitase explained that the male character shown in the title is on equal footing with Lightning in terms of strength, and the two will be in conflict during the game. Lightning has seen a few cosmetic changes, most notably that she now wears a suit of armor instead of her traditional attire, and the game as a whole will have “the serious feel of a true numbered entry into the series.”
