I've been gaming since I was eight, and while my game diet consists mostly of RPGs, I enjoy action and puzzle games as well. I love Final Fantasy games, Mass Effect, Fallout, The Legend of Zelda, Wild ARMs, and many more.

I worked for a few years at "that other RPG website" before deciding to move on for a while. Now I've allowed myself to get dragged back into the gaming industry (damn you, Roku). I really can't stay away from something that synthesizes two of my passions: writing and gaming.

The actual Facebook post, however, suggests Fable III “branded condoms.”

Mass Effect 2 (Xbox 360) – Staff Review

Wednesday, February 10th, 2010 by | Posted in Action RPG Reviews, Reviews, X360 Reviews

As far as games go, a sequel is simply the second game in a series. A good sequel properly follows up the first game’s events. A great sequel takes the good in the previous game and builds on it while improving or eliminating the bad. By this measure, Mass Effect 2 is definitely a great sequel.

Adventures to Go – Staff Review

Monday, November 30th, 2009 by | Posted in PSP Reviews, Reviews, Strategy RPG Reviews

When I accepted the review assignment for Adventures to Go, I expected that it would be an easy review that would fit well into my schedule. I could pick up the game, play through an order or two, and set it down for a while. No need to play for hours at a stretch, no deep storyline to follow, and minimal gameplay mechanics to learn.

New Estpolis Game Turns Out To Be Remake

Thursday, November 19th, 2009 by | Posted in Game News

Remember when we said that there is a new Estpolis game in development? It’s actually a remake of the 1995 SNES game Estpolis Denki II, also known as Lufia II: Rise of the Sinistrals. This time, it will be for the Nintendo DS and it’s a 3D action RPG with full voice acting. At least they left in the puzzle-driven dungeons.

The bottom screen of the DS will show the map and face panels for party members. Players can change characters by tapping a face panel with the stylus. The top screen shows the action. Players can execute attack combos by switching between characters during battle.

Estpolis will be released in Japan on February 25. There has been no word whether the game will make it to other regions. If it comes stateside, who wants to bet that Johnny Yong Bosch will voice Dekar?

The release date and the platform haven’t been announced, but more information will be available in next week’s issue of Famitsu.

The Importance of Being Complete

Thursday, October 29th, 2009 by | Posted in Editorials

One of the things we’ve been discussing behind the scenes here lately is the fact that a number of video game review websites (we won’t name names) have been posting more reviews for games that the reviewers haven’t actually completed. The average reader may not know this, but some of the major websites, particularly those who cover all genres, don’t always finish the games they review. This is understandable in some cases because of time constraints, the volume of their coverage, or the fact that with some genres, there really isn’t an ending (such as MMORPGs and certain simulation and puzzle games, which instead have hour requirements). But games that have actual endings — RPGs in particular — require completion. What’s disheartening is that smaller websites, whether they target a genre or a specific gamer demographic, are doing this too.

Demon’s Souls Offers Halloween Tricks, Treats

Thursday, October 29th, 2009 by | Posted in Game News

Straight from Atlus comes this sinister note written in blood:

“Early reports from the Kingdom of Boletaria indicate that the Old One’s power grows,” announced Aram Jabbari, Manager of PR and Sales for Atlus, shuffling awkwardly under the weight of his full set of fluted armor. “We’ve discovered that the nefarious Demon will seek to descend the land in pure blackness on All Hallow’s Eve. His minions will be more powerful, but the rewards for those who seek to challenge them will be greater as well. We don’t know how long this dark tendency will last, but we do advise those prone to controller-into-LCD syndrome to proceed carefully.” Jabbari then cackled as he quickly put a Thief’s ring on his finger and disappeared.
