A Note on Review Tags

I’ll briefly explain the tags that reviews have in order to help you find what you’re looking for more easily once we start building up a large archive.

  • Each review has the name of the game as a tag in case more than one staff member decides to review it.
  • Should the game be part of a series, it will also have a series tag.
  • If the review was written before the game was a year old, it will have a Review tag. If not, it will have a Retroview tag.
  • The Original tag means that the review you’re reading originated on RandomNPC. If you see a Repeat tag, that means that the author had originally written that review for a site that they used to work for but are posting it here as well since the game’s pretty new and the review is probably still going to be helpful to you readers, especially for those that haven’t read it before.
  • Finally, the Feature tag is for a review that is for a game that was both recently released and original.

May I suggest a platform tag? For ease in finding games of a specific platform?

Perhaps even a genre tag – yes, I know they’re all RPGs – but some are action, some are traditional turn-based, some are strategy, etc. Just a thought.

I totally agree with Tyler! I think that these are things that some other sites have left out in the past- it’d be nice to know, by a glance, what consoles/sub-genres/such associations an RPG in particular has.

    Nice start, everybody!!

Well, since nobody else is responding to this, I’d say it’s a good idea and easy to implement, so look for it in the future and/or retroactively! Theoretically, anyway. One somewhat functional problem with it in the tag system’s current state is that the tag cloud on the sidebar reflects popular usage of the tags. If every review has a system and sub-genre tag, then invariably those will become and stay as the “popular” tags. But I ramble. Still, we’re going to look into it. Ok?

I concur, it’s a great idea and it’ll go a long way towards organizing our reviews. We’ll have to see how the tag cloud handles it once we start getting a lot of these things, but still, very good idea.

And lo, we’re now using categories (as seen on the sidebar below the tagcloud) for organizing system and sub-genre. Let us know what you think!
