Chocobo Invades the (Virtual) World

Square Enix today embraced the concept of virtual reality when it announced two new games, not at a press conference in Tokyo, but rather at an online event in the Square Enix Members Virtual World. Both are chocobo games for the Nintendo DS and are due out later this year in Japan.

Cid and Chocobo’s Mysterious Dungeon is a port of Final Fantasy Fables: Chocobo’s Dungeon for the Wii. The graphics will be scaled down due to the limitations of the new platform, a number of new goodies will be added to the title. The game will be playable from Cid’s perspective and it will offer new job classes. Japanese fans will even have the opportunity to vote on which job classes will be added.

The second title, Chocobo Tales: The Witch, the Girl, and the Five Heroes, is a sequel to Final Fantasy Fables: Chocobo Tales. Details are scarce, but like its predecessor, the game will feature gameplay in a storybook.

Cid and Chocobo’s Mysterious Dungeon is due out this fall in Japan while Chocobo Tales: The Witch, the Girl, and the Five Heroes is expected out this coming winter in Japan. There’s been no word yet about a North American release.
