Strategy Session – Competitive Pokemon XXIII: Dragonite

A constant fan-favorite, the target of this week’s Strategy Session has largely clung to its position in the tier system through sheer popularity. It isn’t as overpowering as some other Dragons, and it tends more towards the jack-of-all-trades master-of-none role. And yet, people have consistently voted with their Pokeballs; Dragonite is OU. This week, we’ll see if we can’t pick a focus for this fluffy orange-yellow lizard.

Xenoblade Site Updated, Characters Introduced

In an update to the official website, Nintendo and Monolith Soft released details about three of the main characters for Xenoblade. Apparent frontman Shulk is hitting the books looking for ways to fend off the enemies attacking his hometown, presumably through the use of Monado, the sword for which the game was previously named. Dunban is a hero of the Homs tribe and the current wielder of Monado. Fiorung is Dunban’s responsible sister, and she fills out the obligatory childhood friend role for Shulk.

Xenoblade will hit shelves in Japan on June 10. Safe money says Fiorung will hit Shulk at least once, either due to a comical misunderstanding or because she’s too stubborn to admit she likes him.

Technical Issues

You may have noticed that we had some technical difficulties this weekend. Specifically, we were flagged as an attack site by Google. Rest assured, we aren’t out to beat you up for experience points and gold.

After checking everything, we determined that it was clearly not our fault. The problem was actually with our webhosting service, which had developed a security flaw. We have now changed to a different webhost and uploaded a clean backup.

We apologize for any inconveniences this may have caused.

Fable III: Get to Know Your Co-op Partner, If You Know What I Mean

A preview of the upcoming Fable III was featured in the Official Xbox Magazine released over the weekend. Among the other bits and pieces discussed was one extremely curious new feature, that being the ability to get airquotes-intimate with another player over co-op. This includes having and raising a child down the line, possibly ruling the kingdom as king and queen, and piping in Barry White at opportune moments over voice chat.

In a related story, the non-existent website Days Since Fox News Complained About Video Games has announced that it is ready to roll its counter back to zero. Its sister fake site, Days Since Someone Referenced Robes and Wizard Hats, issued a statement that it plans to do the same.

Mistwalker Reveals The Last Story Protagonists

Mistwalker recently updated its developer blog for The Last Story once again, this time with artwork and some information regarding the leading male and female. There is a “wall” between the two protagonists that keeps them from sharing their feelings. The blog also says that while the hero’s story is the main focus of the game, other stories will be woven in as well.

In addition, Hironobu Sakaguchi noted on his own blog that The Last Story is in the final stage of development. So far, the company has not even shown screenshots of the game or released much information about it, but that may change in the near future.

Divinity II: Ego Draconis – Staff Review

Dragon Slayers, Dragons, and Dragon Knights are all key players in the battle for the world, with Damian as the vengeful antagonist. Divinity II: Ego Draconis‘s storyline follows a newly trained Dragon Slayer, though the process isn’t entirely complete and interrupted with the appearance of a Dragon Knight. Of course, there’s a lot more to it than that. There’s plenty of questing and exploration on the side as well, and the life of a Dragon Slayer is unlikely to be dull.

Final Fantasy XIII – Staff Review

Since its announcement in 2006, fans of the series have eagerly anticipated Final Fantasy XIII. It was arguably one of the biggest stories to come out of E3 that year, and considering all of the announcements that year, that’s saying something.  And then in 2008, Microsoft finally dropped the bombshell that people had been expecting for years; Final Fantasy XIII was coming to PS3 and 360.  The net result has been four years of almost nonstop hype, which made the wait for the game all the longer.  So now, the question remains; was it worth the wait?  I can say without a shadow of a doubt, that it was.

Pokemon Heart Gold and Soul Silver – Staff Review

Over the years there have been signs and portents of a remake of Pokemon Gold and Silver, fan favorites in the series due to its sheer size and the fact that it was the first game to expand the Pokemon universe beyond the confines of the Kanto region. The final result, Pokemon Heart Gold and Soul Silver, is every bit as fully featured and chock-full of Pokemon goodness as the originals, but unfortunately, they also carry over some of the less desireable quirks of Gold and Silver. Most serious of these are bothersome balance issues, and a plot which is flat even by Pokemon standards. On the whole, HG/SS isn’t a bad game, and makes some definite strides in the areas of sound and visuals, but it probably won’t be of much interest to anyone but fans of the series.
