Ever since I was a little kid, I've always played games. I started on an Atari, and now I'm playing games on the current generation of hardware. I played most of the first generation Nintendo games, but when I started Dragon Warrior, I discovered my love for the RPG genre.

When I'm not playing games, I'm usually spending time with my lovely wife Caroline. We spend most evenings snuggled on the couch while we watch TV or play games together.

My other hobby, though I admit I don't give it nearly as much time as I used to, is Gundam. I love a good mecha anime, and nothing does it quite like a Gundam show. I've seen nearly every series out there, and I have built five perfect grade models.

I guess from all this, one can easily surmise that I am 27 going on 13. I don't mind that one bit, and I'd be disappointed if that changed. I've always been young at heart, and I intend to stay that way.

Fallout 3 PC Edit Tool Goes Live, DLC Detailed

Thursday, December 11th, 2008 by | Posted in Game News

It’s been a busy couple days for Fallout 3 fans. Fans have been eagerly waiting for the PC edit tool, and Bethesda has finally given them their Garden of Eden Creation Kit, known by many as a G.E.C.K. This tool will give players the ability to modify landscapes, locations, dialogue, and more. One could, for instance, completely redo the ending, or the tool could be used to create new monsters or even recreate the first two games. Do you have the PC version? Get your G.E.C.K.

Details about the game’s upcoming DLC packs have been announced as well.  (more…)

Dragon Quest X Heading to Wii, Dragon Quest IX Dated

Wednesday, December 10th, 2008 by | Posted in Game News

It should come as a surprise to no one that Dragon Quest X is in the works.  It’s not even very surprising that it would be for the Wii, but nobody expected Yuji Horii to announce both of those things at a press conference today.  There is no date set for it, but Dragon Quest X is definitely headed to the Wii.

In the same conference, it has been announced that the upcoming DS game Dragon Quest IX will hit Japanese shelves on March 28 for 5980 yen. It should be noted that’s a little bit higher than the usual price for a DS game. Sadly, there has been no mention of release dates anywhere else in the world.

One Kingdom Hearts Hits Retail, Another on the Way

Tuesday, December 2nd, 2008 by | Posted in Game News

The PS2 remake of Kingdom Hearts: Chain of Memories that was an extra in the Japanese release of Kingdom Hearts II Final Mix+ has finally hit North American shelves for the low price of $29.99, but Square Enix is not content to rest on its laurels.  In the same announcement, it has been announced that we will be seeing Kingdom Hearts: 358/2 Days on this side of the pacific.  There has been no word yet of a localization of the PSP game Kingdom Hearts: Birth by Sleep or Kingdom Hearts: Coded, which is only available on DoCoMo mobile phones at the moment.  Though it is likely we’ll see Birth by Sleep, Coded is highly unprobable unless it receives a handheld port a la Parasite Eve: the 3rd Birthday, which so far, has also not been confirmed for North American release in either form.

Square Enix Japan Taunts Rest of World With DSi Bundles

Wednesday, November 26th, 2008 by | Posted in Game News

Japan’s an expensive place to live, and it can get kind of crowded. So to make up for these things, companies like Square Enix placate the populace with sweet DSi bundles that make pretty much everyone else in the world jealous. Case in point, there are two new bundles for the DSi, a system that we don’t even get until at least the middle of next year over here. The first is a bundle for Kingdom Hearts 358/2 Days, and so far, Square Enix hasn’t said what sort of special limited edition DSi it will come with. Final Fantasy Chrystal Chronicles: Echoes of Time will also be getting a pretty limited run. It’ll come with the game, a white DS embossed with a cat, all for a suggested 23,940 yen, which is exactly $252 right now.

Speculation No More, Blood of Bahamut Confirmed as DS RPG

Thursday, November 13th, 2008 by | Posted in Game News

Speculation regarding the new countdown site www.bahamut.jp was rampant, but the latest pages of Famitsu give at least some of the answers a few days sooner than expected. Blood of Bahamut is an action RPG for the DS with 2D sprites on 3D backgrounds. So far we know that the towering colossus that looks like a walking city will have some role. What role? We don’t know that yet. Perhaps that will be part of the big reveal. Two characters, Ibuki and Yui, have also been named.

Square Enix Has New Countdown Site

Wednesday, November 12th, 2008 by | Posted in Game News

There’s a new countdown over at http://www.bahamut.jp/. It’s not clear what the game is, but we’ll know more in about 4 days, 23 hours, 28 minutes, 16 seconds, give or take depending on your time zone. Based on the title of the site, it is probably related to Blood of Bahamut, which was recently trademarked by Square Enix. It’s also possible this is tied into Bahamut Lagoon in some fashion, but that is pure speculation at this point.

Fallout 3 Censored in Japan

Tuesday, November 11th, 2008 by | Posted in Game News

Bethesda has reported some changes to the Japanese versions of Fallout 3. Players will no longer meet Mr. Burke in the ‘Power of the Atom’ quest. In the game, he wants to explode a nuclear bomb in a certain town. Without him, the player will not have the option to detonate the bomb. A weapon’s name has also been changed, and though it has not been officially announced which one, the most likely weapon is the Fat Man, which launches mini-nukes and shares its name with the bomb dropped on Nagasaki during the second world war. These changes were made because they were deemed “inappropriate,” and considering that Japan is the only country to have nuclear weapons used against them, it is understandable that this would be a touchy subject for many Japanese.

Chrono Trigger DS Getting Another Ending

Monday, November 10th, 2008 by | Posted in Game News

Chrono Trigger is famous for all its endings, but the 14 true endings along with the bad ending you get if you lose to Lavos were just not enough for the DS port.  The latest pages of Famitsu show two screens from this ending, but they don’t reveal very much.  One has Crono, Marle, and Frog next to a time gate, and Marle asks, “Where are we?”  The other shows the Prophet from Zeal standing next to the same gate alone.  Both screens show a vortex area like the one you see when you fight Lavos the first time.  As expected, there were no details on getting the new ending.
