Let see... I've been gaming since the NES era and my first RPG experience dates back to the days when Dragon Quest I was still known as Dragon Warrior I. I studied English literature at school and after obtaining a nice, shiny degree I now do wordprocessing work. Thrilling stuff.

I'm a fan of RPGs and of writing so this is a good chance to combine the two. When I'm not playing games (or writing about them) I can frequently be found reading, writing, wasting copious amounts of time on the internet, and taking beginner Japanese classes.

Fragile Details Break Out

Namco Bandai has finally shed some light on their upcoming Wii RPG, Fragile. New screenshots show the interior of a dilapidated hotel with graffiti that, the company says, gives hints about the calamity that left the world in ruins.

Wii Gets More RPG Action

In the latest issue of Famitsu, Japanese developer Imageepoch has annouced that it’ll be giving the Wii more loving in the form of Arc Rise Fantasia. Only a few details are known about the upcoming RPG. Players will control a team of three who will share an AP gauge in battle. Summoned creatures called “Roguesu” will also play a role in the game.

Japan Nets Shiny Square Enix Downloads

Starting today some lucky folk in Japan will be able to download classic PlayStation games from the companies formerly known as Square, Enix,  and Taito. If the names alone don’t bring back memories, then the games certainly will. Xenogears, Einhander, Rakugaki Showtime, Astronoka, Raystorm, and Fighter’s Impact are the first of twelve games Square Enix has slated for re-release on the PlayStation Network.

The games are available for 600 yen. There’s been no word yet whether any of the titles will be made available to non-Japanese accounts.

Rune Factory 2 to Make US Debut

Natsume announced today that Rune Factory 2: A Fantasy Harvest Moon for the Nintendo DS will be making its way to North American shores this fall. And if that weren’t enough it’s also set to make an appearance at E3 in July. (more…)

Atlus Digs Up the Dirt

Atlus is on roll this summer with the announcement of another upcoming RPG, this one for the Nintendo DS. Master of The Monster Lair will feature gameplpay that revolves around creating dungeons and hunting monsters.

The story begins in the town of South Arc, which of late has been besieged by monsters. Players will take the role of a young man who, instead of coming across a magic lamp or a chicken that lays golden eggs, has the (mis)fortune of encountering a talking shovel. The obstreperous implement forces a quest upon the young man: He must save South Arc by digging a dungeon that will lure away all the monsters that have been plaguing the village. (more…)

Rune Factory Frontier Site Opens Its Doors

Are you a Rune Factory fan? Are you fluent in Japanese? If so, you can check out Rune Factory Frontier‘s official site which has just set up shop. The site gives some basic info on the game such as story details and a character profile for the protagonist, Laguna. If you’re not so fluent, don’t despair because there are also pretty pictures to look at.

Rune Factory Frontier is due out later this year in Japan for the Nintendo Wii. There’s no word yet as to whether we’ll be seeing it on this side of the Pacific.

Little King Looks to the Little People

If you’re a budding artist then Marvelous Entertainment and XSeed Games have just the contest for you. The companies have announced today that they’re holding a fan art contest for their upcoming Wii title Little King’s Story. Your mission, should you choose to accept it, is to draw a “UMA” i.e. an Unidentified Mysterious Animal, though the UMA can take the form of a bird, beast, specter, bizarre human, or pretty much anything you can dream up. The prize? Having your artwork turned into an in-game character. There will also be 99 runner-ups whose artwork will appear in the in-game museum.

Entries must be emailed or mailed to the company by August 1, 2008. For full contest rules and entry details see the game’s site.

Little King Makes Big Debut

Last month Marvelous Entertainment announced Oh-sama Monogatari (also known as ‘Project O‘), a Sim/RPG for the Nintendo Wii in Japan. This week Marvelous Entertainment and XSEED Games jointly announced that they will be bringing the game to North American shores as Little King’s Story. Square Enix Throws Private Party

This coming August a handful of lucky Square Enix fans will have a chance to get in on an invite-only party with the mysterious name of “DKΣ3713 Private Party 2008.” To win an entry, fans will have to put their names in at the Square Enix Members site. The big event will take place in Tokyo’s Harajuku fashion district on August 2 and 3.

Crisis Core Bundle Priced

As previously reported, Europeans gamers will have the opportunity to pick up a limited edition Crisis Core bundle, which will include Crisis Core: Final Fantasy VII and an engraved silver PSP. The bundle has now been priced at 189.99 Euros. It will go on sale the day of the game’s PAL release, June 20.

Too Human Offers Pre-Order In-Game Goodies

If you’re planning on picking up Too Human, pre-ordering will net you some extras. Microsoft’s gaming blog has announced that those who pre-order at participating retailers will receive five exclusive sets of armor that can be equipped by the game’s characters. The armor can be cutomized as it has two slots for use with the game’s rune system.

Too Human will hit store shelves August 19 in the US. It’s expected to see world-wide release soon after that.

Europe Gets Collectible Crisis Core

European gamers who’ve been planning to pick up a PSP in order to play Crisis Core: Final Fantasy VII are in luck. A limited edition collector’s pack including the game and a metallic gray PSP will be available on June 20, the day of Crisis Core‘s release in PAL territories. The price has not been confirmed, but should be under 200 Euros.

Rune Factory Farms Wii

Atlus Makes War Not Love With Dokapon Kingdom

Atlus has announced a new multiplayer RPG for the Wii. In Dokapon Kingdom up to four players will try to save the kingdom of Dokapon, which is being ravaged by hordes of gold-hungry monsters bent on stealing all of the kingdom’s wealth. The reward? The throne and the hand of Princess Penny. The problem? One throne and one princess, but up to three friends fighting alongside you and vying for that same prize.

World Destruction Organization Steps Forward
