Let see... I've been gaming since the NES era and my first RPG experience dates back to the days when Dragon Quest I was still known as Dragon Warrior I. I studied English literature at school and after obtaining a nice, shiny degree I now do wordprocessing work. Thrilling stuff.

I'm a fan of RPGs and of writing so this is a good chance to combine the two. When I'm not playing games (or writing about them) I can frequently be found reading, writing, wasting copious amounts of time on the internet, and taking beginner Japanese classes.

Third’s a Charm for Mega Man Star Force

Capcom Japan has announced the third entry into the Mega Man Star Force series. Like its predecessors, the game will make its debut on the Nintendo DS. The official site is up, though currently it only has a brief intro and a downloadable wallpaper.

Valkyrie Profile DS Makes Its Online Debut

Valkyrie Profile fans may have a while yet to wait for the latest addition to the series, Valkyrie Profile: The Accused One for the Nintendo DS. In the meantime, though, Square Enix has some goodies to offer. The game’s Japanese site has gone live and features character profiles, story details, and screecaps. Sega Goes Wild With Release Dates

Sega’s taken the plunge this week and announced release dates for two upcoming RPGs. Valkyria Chronicles for the PlayStation 3 will be landing on North American shores in November while Alpha Protocol, announced for PC, PlayStation 3, and Xbox 360, is expected in February 2009.

Final Fantasy Tactics Advances Into Europe

European gamers will soon be able to get their hands on the latest tactical RPG from Square Enix, and for once they won’t have to wait much longer than everyone else. Final Fantasy Tactics A2: Grimoire of the Rift for the Nintendo DS was previously announced for June 24 in North America. Three days later, on June 27, it will be available to European gamers. Blue Dragon Plus Takes It Slow

Lost in Blue Washes Up On Shore

Konami has announced that Lost in Blue will be washing up on the shores of the Wii. Lost in Blue: Shipwrecked! (working title) will be the series’ debut on consoles. The story will begin typically enough for the series: players will find themselves shipwrecked on a seemingly uninhabited island, one which will feature an assortment of dangers, ancient ruins, and an active volcano. At first players will have to struggle to survive but after that they can turn their attention to escaping the island or making a home there with their fellow castaways and their trusty pets.

Date Set for Crisis in Europe

European gamers can finally rejoice. A date has been set for the release of Crisis Core: Final Fantasy VII for the PlayStation Portable.

Crisis Core: Final Fantasy VII is the prequel to Final Fantasy VII and features Zack as the leading man with cameos by a number of other series favorites. It was released in North America in March and will see its debut in Europe on June 20.

What’s Better Than Diamond and Pearl? Platinum.

The latest issue of Famitsu features scans announcing the advent of Pokémon Platinum. The game is a tie-in to Diamond and Pearl, which were released last year, and promises to be full of bonus content. The game is due out later this year in Japan. Persona 4 Gets Tough

Because no Persona game would be complete without a tough guy, a new leather-jacket wearing Persona 4 character has been revealed. The latest castmember, Kanji Tatsumi, is known around town as a delinquent, though he seems to attend the same high school as the main character. His persona is Takemikazuchi, but, so far, he remains otherwise mysterious.

Persona 4 is due out July 10 in Japan. As of yet there’s been no solid information as to a North-American release.

Xbox 360 Takes Cover as Zoids Assault

Avalon Code Details Predict Doom

We have some details about the upcoming Avalon Code for the Nintendo DS. The game revolves around a magical artifact called the “book of prophecy” which can reshape reality. The story begins with the game’s protagonist being plagued by nightmares about the end of the world. Yet even in the midst of these dreams a mysterious voice announces the world’s end will lead to the birth of a new world and commands the main characters to begin a journey. On this journey he must write in the book of prophecy and fill its pages with things of value so that they will be brought into existence in the new world. (more…)

DS Gets Even More Action

Nintendo’s handheld system is hardly starved for RPGs and, with yet another one on the way, the DS may have to start watching its waistline. Avalon Code is an action RPG being developed by Matrix Software, best known for the recent DS remakes of Final Fantasy III and Final Fantasy IV.

Not much is known about Avalon Code at present. The game is due out later this year in Japan.

Fallout 3 Pulls Out the Big Guns

For gamers who are fans of the post-apocalyptic genre, Fallout 3 will be easy on the eyes. It seems it’ll be easy on the ears as well. Today Bethesda announced that the game will feature a soundtrack by award-wining composer, Inon Zur. Zur has written music for numerous forms of media. He’s composed for anime such as Escaflowne, movie trailers, including Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix, and for TV webisodes such as Ghost Whisperer: The Other Side. His work in the gaming industry includes Crysis, EverQuest II: Rise of Kunark, and Men of Valor, whose main theme was awarded Best Original Instrumental by the Game Audio Network Guild.

Black Sigil Details Uncovered

RPG fans hankering for some SNES-era nostalgia may want to take a look at the upcoming Black Sigil for the Nintendo DS. Formerly known as Project Exile, the game takes place in the land of Bel Lenora where humans are gifted with magical powers at their birth. Fifteen years ago, a man bereft of magic of magical ability suddenly appeared and wreaked havoc over the land. He was finally defeated by Bel Lenora’s most powerful general. But now another mysterious being has appeared and threatens Bel Lenora once again.
