I've been gaming since I was eight, and while my game diet consists mostly of RPGs, I enjoy action and puzzle games as well. I love Final Fantasy games, Mass Effect, Fallout, The Legend of Zelda, Wild ARMs, and many more.

I worked for a few years at "that other RPG website" before deciding to move on for a while. Now I've allowed myself to get dragged back into the gaming industry (damn you, Roku). I really can't stay away from something that synthesizes two of my passions: writing and gaming.

Though E3 is over, the gaming world is still bewildered over the announcement of Final Fantasy XIV. Only a trailer was shown and information is  scarce, but nevertheless there are a few details about the game. League of Legends: Clash of Fates Impression 1

Friday, June 5th, 2009 by | Posted in E3

What’s unique about this impression is that it didn’t even take place at the show. Instead, the developer, Riot Games, threw a party at the Lucky Strike bowling alley just down the street. The party, billed as “booze, bowling, and brawl,” was very hip and swanky.

Legend of Zelda: Spirit Tracks Impression 1

Friday, June 5th, 2009 by | Posted in E3

I did not get to spend much time with The Legend of Zelda: Spirit Tracks, but I did get enough playtime to form an impression. Nintendo’s demo was set to time out after three minutes, and as always the booth staff closely monitored people so that the line could move quickly.

Dissidia: Final Fantasy Impression 1

Friday, June 5th, 2009 by | Posted in E3

I’ve never been a huge fan of fighting games, and my experience with them has been largely limited to Super Smash Brothers. But Dissidia: Final Fantasy interests me for obvious reasons — I love the Final Fantasy series — so I gave it a try at Square Enix’s booth.

While passing through Sony’s booth, I happened to spot a game that’d I’d been interested in for quite a while: Level 5’s White Knight Chronicles. As soon as a station became available, I picked up a controller and tried it out.

Microsoft E3 Media Briefing Impression

Wednesday, June 3rd, 2009 by | Posted in E3

Microsoft kicked off its press conference by showing a trailer and a live demonstration of Rock Band Beatles, punctuated by the appearances of Yoko Ono, Olivia Harrison, Ringo Starr, and Sir Paul McCartney. The celebrity endorsements glossed over the fact that the game isn’t exclusive to the 360, and as impressive as they were, it didn’t really make a great opening. (more…)

Editorial – E3 is Energy, Exhibits, Equilibrium

Friday, May 29th, 2009 by | Posted in Editorials, Events

Most gamers remember what E3 was like in the early to mid-’00s, even if they didn’t attend: showy exhibits, loud music, plenty of swag, booth babes, and a festive atmosphere. It was more than just a trade show; it was a festival of gaming for the industry’s best. It was the chance to try out games that weren’t out yet and talk with developers. It was an exhausting sensory overload and a collective experience that made many wonderful memories.

Bioware Drops New Mass Effect 2 Teaser, Dragon Age: Origins Release Date

Friday, May 29th, 2009 by | Posted in Game News

Apparently shunning old-fashioned press releases, Bioware recently released two new teaser videos via GameTrailers.

The first is a new E3 teaser trailer for Mass Effect 2. The first teaser trailer, released back in February, showed that Commander Shepard was killed in action. This new trailer shows Shepard alive and well and taking on a dangerous mission. There’s also a previously released video that features the developers talking about what players can expect in Mass Effect 2.

The second is a new trailer for Dragon Age: Origins. In addition to showing plenty of spattered blood, this trailer also reveals the game’s new release date of October 20.

We’re Going to the Moon!

Thursday, May 28th, 2009 by | Posted in Site News

Effective today, we’re switching IRC servers again. This time, we’re moving to irc.lunarnet.org, home of the moon penguins. Our friends at Soulriders made the jump a while back and we decided to follow suit. Lunarnet is more stable and the administration is more on-the-ball in dealing with technical issues.

If you regularly join us on IRC, please remember to connect to lunarnet instead of procrast. If you’ve never joined our IRC channel, drop in and visit us at our new home.

We Confess…

Thursday, April 2nd, 2009 by | Posted in AFD

The mystical magnetism of April Fool’s Day had staff member Jordan Jackson so enthralled that he was inspired to write three prank news stories yesterday. A FFXIII demo would be welcomed, Mother 3 on Wiiware would rock our socks off, and Kingdom Hearts 3 information…well…that’d be nice, but I shudder to think of the fanboy tirades that would follow the announcement of Wii exclusivity. Of course, none of these stories are true.

April Fool’s Day is a great time for us to all stop and realize that we shouldn’t take things so seriously. I hope you all had a great AFD, and stay tuned for all the real news and reviews we have in store for you!
